Activation of Office 2011 has been an issue recently. When possible, the best solution is to upgrade to Office 2016, which has not had these problems. O ffice 2016 for Mac requires OS X 10.10 or later. If you have an earlier version of OS X, upgrade OS X first, and then remove Office and try again to install Office. If you are uncertain if you can or should upgrade OS X on your Mac, an Apple store can usually give good advice on this. If upgrading to Office 2016 is not an option, try applying updates to Office 2011, but be aware that this has only provided limited success: Office 365 was installed but stopped working.
