Have you tried your usb cable yet? I use a Macbook and have zero issues with my INC and syncing. I to use the doubletwist app for itunes, works really well. I also am able to just drag and drop photos and other files from the Mac to my phone. Once you connect the usb cable you need to enable drive/disk mode on your phone. Then the internal drive,and if you have an external drive installed will show up on your desktop.

Pretty straight ahead, nice to finally have a phone (that isn't an iphone) sync up to my Mac. I haven't tried to tether yet but will in the future. You can use an app called Pdanet from the Market, which allows you to access tethering, I think.
